Syyskuun päivitys | September update

Hei! Kaikkea on tapahtunut ja mulla ei oo ollut hyvää aikaa istua alas ja kirjottaa blogipostausta.

Hi! A lot has happened and I haven’t had time to write all about it.

Toronto: Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada & CN tower

Jatketaan siitä mihin mä viimeksi jäin. Koulu tosiaan alkoi ja siitä kirjoitinkin ihan oman postauksen. Viikko koulun alun jälkeen sain mahdollisuuden mennä koulupäivän sijasta Torontoon. Mun host äiti meni katsomaan baseballia ja mä sekä Josefine päästiin Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada:n ja CN torniin. Sitä edelliseltävänä päivänä Josefine tuli mun luokse yöksi ja käytiin katsomassa auringonlaskua rannalla.

Toronto on sen verran lähellä Wasaga Beachia, että jotkut käy siellä töissä. Me kuljettiin sinne ensiksi ajaen ja sitten vaihdettiin metroon, jotta päästäisiin helpommin Toronton ydinkeskustaan. Ripley’s, CN torni ja Rogers center (baseball stadion) on kaikki vieri vieren.

Söin poutinea CN tornin huipulla, joka oli erittäin kanadalainen kokemus. Se päivä oli todella kiva. Siitä päivästä jäi käteen se, että nyt haluun myös käydä CN tornissa pimeeseen aikaan.

Let’s continue where we left off. School started but I wrote an entire blog post about it. A week later from the start of school me and Josefine got a chance to go to Toronto. My host mom went to watch a baseball game. Meanwhile me and Josefine went to Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada and the CN tower. The day before that Josefine came to my place to have a sleepover. We walked to the beach to watch the sunset.

Toronto is so close to Wasaga Beach that some people go to work there. We drove there and then switched to the subway to get to the downtown of Toronto. Ripley’s, CN tower and Rogers center (baseball stadium) are all right next to each other.

I ate poutine at the top of CN tower. That is a pretty Canadian experience I would say. The day was a success. Now I am just left graving to go to the CN tower at nighttime when you can see all the city lights.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Kävin syyskuussa katsomassa Harry Potter and the Cursed Child -näytelmän Torontossa. Kävin katsomassa sitä mun host-äidin, mun host-äidin ystävän ja sen ystävän lapsenlapsen kanssa. Me oltiin kaikki pukeuduttu Harry Potter -asuihin. Mulla oli päällä viitta. Se teatteri, jossa se näytelmä pyörii, oli remontoitu sitä varten. Se näytelmä oli todella hyvin toteutettu. Näyttelijät oli hyviä ja rekvisiitta oli vaikuttava.

I went to watch Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play in Toronto in September. I went to see it with my host mom, her friend and her friend’s grandchild. We all were dressed up in Harry Potter costumes. I had a cloak. The theater was renovated for the play. The play was well executed. The actors were great and the props were amazing.

Rotary district conference in Sudbury

21.9 keskiviikkona koulun jälkeen mun kolmas host-isä haki mut koulusta, koska menin niille yöksi. Torstaina haettiin Josefine ja lähettiin mun kolmansien host vanhempien kanssa kohti Sudburya, koska meillä oli siellä mun Kanadan Rotarypiirin konferenssi.

Sudburyssa mentiin tapaamaan mun 3. host-isän isää ja mun host vanhempien koiraa Daisya, joka oli siellä hoidossa. Sieltä suunnattiin italialaiseen ravintolaan muutaman muun rotarin kanssa.

Perjantaiaamuna mentiin takas mun 3. host-isän isän luokse tekemään ugly stickeja (jotka on soittimia Newfoundlandista). Sieltä lähdettiin syömään lounasta ravintolaan ja sitten shoppailemaan ostoskeskukseen. Illalla vaihdettiin hotellia ja tavattiin muut mun piirin vaihtarit (Lara, Aneta ja Elise). Kun oltiin saatu meidän kamat hotelliin, mentiin Party cityyn ostamaan peruukkeja ja sen jälkeen illalliselle.

Lauantaina lähdettiin aamupalan jälkeen kohti big nickleä, joka on iso kolikko. Otettiin siellä kuvia meidän lippujen kanssa. Sieltä mentiin käytettyjen kirjojen kauppaan, josta löysin muumikirjan (en kyllä ostanut sitä).

Syötiin lounasta muiden rotarien kanssa. Laralle tuotiin synttärikakku, koska Laralla oli synttärit. (Me myös ostettiin edellisenä päivänä Party citystä synttäriasusteita, joita Laran täytyi käyttää koko päivä).

Lounaan jälkeen mentiin Science Northiin, joka on iso tiedekeskus. Kun oltiin kierretty se, lähettiin hotellille harjottelemaan meidän sketsiä, joka meillä oli luvassa sunnuntaina. Se sketsi kerto päivästä vaihto-oppilaan elämässä.

Illalla valmistauduttiin meidän illan gaalaan, jonka teemana oli 60-70-luvut. Laitettiin meidän peruukit ja asut päälle. Gaalassa meidät vaihto-oppilaat laitettiin istumaan eri pöytiin. Illan päätteeksi päästiin tanssilattialle, jossa soi 60-70 -lukujen musiikkia. Ilta huipentu siihen, että ugly stickit pääsi mukaan tanssilattialle.

Sunnuntaina lähdettiin heti aamupalan jälkeen harjottelemaan meidän sketsiä. Lounaan jälkeen päästiin esittämään se ja ihan hyvin se ainakin mun mielestä meni. Asioita, mitä mainittiin siinä oli maito pussissa ja Tim Hortons. Lähdettiin sen jälkeen takasin kohti Collingwoodia mun kolmannen host-perheen, Josefinen ja Daisy koiran kanssa.

On Wednesday 9/21 my third host dad picked me up after school because I slept the night at my third host family’s house. On Thursday we picked up Josefine and started our journey towards Sudbury. We had a Rotary district conference there.

When we made it to Sudbury we went to see my host dad’s dad. I also met my future host dog Daisy. From there we went to an Italian restaurant with other Rotarians.

On Friday morning we went back to my host dad’s dad’s place to make ugly sticks (an instrument from Newfoundland). After we were done we went to eat lunch and shop. In the evening we changed hotels because us exchange students were staying at a different hotel. At the new hotel we met all the other exchange students from my district (Lara, Aneta and Elise). After we got our stuff to our room we went to Party city to buy wigs.

On Saturday we went to see the big nickel (which is a big coin) and we took photos with our flags. From there we went to a used books store. I saw a Moomin book there (I didn’t buy it though).

We ate lunch with all the Rotarians. Lara got a birthday cake since it was her birthday. (And of course we had bought a bunch of stuff from Party city for her to wear in celebration)

After lunch we went to Science North which is a big science center. When we had seen everything there we went back to our hotel to practice our sketch that we had on Sunday. The sketch was about a day in the life of an exchange student.

In the evening we got ready for a 60-70s themed gala we had. We put our wigs and costumes on. In the gala all of us exchange students were separated and put to different tables. At the end of the gala the dance floor opened. It had 60-70s music. At one point the ugly sticks got on the dance floor.

On Sunday we started practicing our sketch right after breakfast. After lunch was showtime. The sketch went well and I feel like people liked it. Some of the things we mentioned in the sketch was milk in a bag and Tim Hortons. After the sketch me, Josefine, my third host parents and Daisy the dog left back to Collingwood.

Olin kipeä | I was sick

Sudbury reissun jälkeen tulin kipeeksi. Jäin pariks yöksi pidempään mun kolmannen host-perheen luo ja lepäsin. Mun host-isä teki mulle nuudelikeittoa.

After Sudbury I become sick. I stayed with my third host family a little bit longer until I got better again. My host dad made noodle soup for me.

Next update will probably be about everything I have done in October (and because I am writing this post in the end of October I can tell you that the next one will be interesting). Life here makes me proud of myself for being brave enough to apply for an exchange.
